King Naresuan is renowned for his victorious and honourable single-handed combat atop an elephant against a Burmese prince. Originally known as Song Khwae, meaning two rivers, as Phitsanulok is nestled between the Nan and Khwae Noi Rivers, it also holds a strategic position between the central plains of Thailand, the northern mountains and the vast plateau of the Northeast. Therefore, Phitsanulok is a natural hub and an ideal spot for travellers wishing to explore the north and west of the Northeast region.
